The latest on the thousands of hotel guests who were inside when it happened. We're following a DEVELOPING STORY this morning. Investigators now know what caused an explosion at the Opryland Hotel and Convention Center. Authorities say a mechanical failure involving natural gas forced over 5000 hotel guests and employees out of the hotel for the night. Guests were given the all-clear to return to the hotel around 3:15am this morning as things get back to normal. Just after the explosion last night, the alarms went off while some guests were looking for answers. You can hear the buzz going off. Over 5000 hotel guests and employees were forced out. Officials say it was a crack in the heating system that caused a natural gas leak which lead to the explosion. No one was seriously hurt, but officials spent the night making sure what looked like an accident wasn't something more."They do not believe at this point that any foul play was involved, again," says Metro Police's Don Aaron. "Everything points to a mechanical failure in the system of this particular room, and nothing more.""Now that we know what happened we need to figure out why and do what we can to stop it from happening again," says Opryland's Jenny Barker. All the rooms were FREE for guests at Opryland, but most ended up sleeping at the Grand Ole Opry House or even on lawn chairs in the parking lot.
