The supercharger is any device that pressurizes the air intake to above atmospheric pressure forcing more air into the engine to produce more power for a given displacement. A supercharger is a form of forced induction that is mechanically powered, usually by a belt connected to the engine's crankshaft.

The advantages of using superchargers are:
1) Increased horsepower: adding a supercharger to any engine is a quick solution to boosting power.
2) No lag: the supercharger’s biggest advantage over a turbocharger is that it does not have any lag. Power delivery is immediate because the engine’s crankshaft drives the supercharger.
3) Superchargers produce good power at low RPM in comparison with turbochargers.

Types of Superchargers:
1) Roots Type Supercharger:
This is the oldest type of supercharger, and it is simple and widely used. The roots-type supercharger is known for producing large amounts of boost while spinning at very low speeds. The primary function of this is that it compresses the incoming air before sending it to the engine.

2) Twin screw Supercharger:
They are quite similar to the Roots-type blower as in the basic mode of operation. Compared to the Roots-type blower, the twin-screw supercharger is vastly more efficient since it moves more air inside the engine and is denser.

3) Centrifugal Superchargers:
It is a specialized supercharger that uses centrifugal force to increase the manifold air pressure. The increased pressure allows the engine to burn more fuel, which results in increased power output.
