Time Magazine’s Instagram Photographer of the Year 2017, Melissa Spitz, through the lens of the camera, was able to see her mother and the mental illness that she struggled with in a new light. Take a look at how her award-winning collection of images helped her see a loved one differently and how you too can learn to forgive and cherish someone you love. Melissa Spitz is a working artist in Brooklyn, NY. She received her BFA from the University of Missouri - Columbia and her MFA from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Spitz is the recipient of Magnum’s 2018 Inge Morath Award, given each year to a woman photographer under the age of 30 to support a long-term documentary project.
