In 1988 Jean Todd and his 90 Peugeot Talbot Sport staff members were commissioned to achieve homologation in the 1300cc Group A category. The 5000 cars required would be built on a revised version of Peugeot' s 205 1. 6 GTI with special emphasis on power to weight. The new Peugeot 205 Ralllye weighed only 794kg by omitting all sound proofing material, complex heating system, unnecessary electrics and fitting lightweight bumpers with revised front spoiler and wheel arches. The engine was a bored out from 1124cc 205 X to 1294 cc with revised crankshaft, competition camshaft and 40 DCOM Webers thereby doubling its power output from 53 bhp to 102 bhp. Its independent all around suspension was set up to a lower ride height via stiffer shocks, coil over springs and custom lower wishbones. Braking was achieved via dual circuit servo assisted 270 mm single pot calipered discs in the front with 180 mm drums in the rear. Its non-assisted steering would match well its high revving engine and close-ratio 5 speed shifting into a thoroughbred experience unlike any other production 205.
The Peugeot 205 Rallye offered was produced in 1988 for the European market and soon after registered to its first owner in Greece. Thirty four years later it was subjected to a fastidious mechanical restoration by Thergiakis Peugeot Athens that entailed overhaul of the gearbox, suspension, brakes and engine carburation with valve clearance adjusted and gasket set replaced. The interior was extensively restored by Vanger Classics with Peugeot original cloth over new padding, new moquettes and carpets over a detailed and wax-coated floor. It is now offered in stellar original all matching numbers condition with full service history and comprehensive photo documented restoration file.
