Michael Hearne's 19th annual Big Barn Dance music festival was encouraged to operate this year to keep the music alive. This is a condensed document of this 3 day concert. In fact, I have included less than half the performers. Some of my favorites are not included for various reasons like I was too busy enjoying listening or dancing.
The festival is three days of continuous music but Michael Hearne has thrown in a free pre-concert art gallery walk the evening before to familiarize people with local businesses. In this video you will see some scenes from Wednesday evening's art walk.
With the help of the State of New Mexico and the Town of Taos directives, this outdoor concert was permitted to happen depending on whether certain rules were followed. For example, anyone who could not show a vaccination card needed a recent negative test result (a testing station was provided outside the gate by the town.) Hand sanitizer and masks were provided and guests were assigned seating pods to encourage social distancing.
This video could have been called: Thankful for the Music. Both musicians and guests were so happy to be out with live audiences. Last year's event was held virtually, so this was a big step in getting back to normal.
