DC’s Bravest rescued two people from a blazing Pleasant Plains neighborhood apartment building during the wee hours of Saturday, October 23rd.

DC Fire and EMS was dispatched at 3:48 AM on a Box Alarm to the 700 block of Hobart Place NW. First arriving units were faced with a large volume of fire visible from several windows on the top floor of a three story occupied apartment building.

A Working Fire Dispatch was sounded as firefighters began an aggressive interior attack and searched for any trapped victims.

An unconscious adult female was found on the fire floor by members of Truck Company 6. She was pulled to safety and handed off to members of Rescue Squad 2, who rushed her from the building into the hands of awaiting EMS personnel. The woman was transported to the hospital in critical condition.

Truck 6 also spotted an adult male in distress at a third floor window on the west side of the building. A portable ladder was raised and firefighters guided him onto the ladder and down to safety. He was treated on the scene and released.

As rescue operations were in progress, headway was being made on extinguishing the large volume of fire. There was some extension to the roof area before it was brought under control. An adjacent home received damage from radiant heat.

A third civilian and one firefighter were also transported to the hospital with minor injuries.

The fire displaced 13 residents, and the American Red Cross was requested to the scene. Fire investigators are looking into the cause.
