This is flight 15 of 28 from my recent trip to Europe. In May, I set out to fly to as many places in Europe as possible, while also flying on as many different airlines and aircraft types as possible. Over a 14 day period I flew on 19 airlines, 21 aircraft types, 30 total flights, all while covering over 31,000 miles. In the end I visited 14 different countries throughout the journey. Over the next few weeks I'll be posting the flights in order, so you too can take this incredible journey, exactly as I did! Flying Around Europe Trip Progress – Flight 15 of 28

Flight 15 Fun Fact – I almost didn't make this connection... Despite having almost 2.5 hours to connect in Frankfurt, I ran up to this flight as they were finishing boarding. What led to 2.5 hours being eaten away was a combination of multiple issues. First, the previous flight on this journey was a Boeing 747-8 flight on Lufthansa from Newark. This was right when Newark was having all of their very highly publicized ATC issues. In conjunction with those ATC issues, Newark still had one of their two main runways closed for construction. Because of those two issues my flight from Newark to Frankfurt took off about 1 hour and 30 minutes late. Not to worry though, Lufthansa had been "padding" the schedule on that flight pretty heavily, so I anticipated we'd arrive about 45 minutes behind the scheduled arrival time, so no big deal... Right? No.... Still a big deal! We did end up landing only about 45 minutes late, but that was just the start the problems. Once we arrived at the gate in Frankfurt, the jet bridge broke. We then waited another 30 minutes on the plane while we waited for them to fix the jet bridge. They never did... So, 1.5 hours of my 2.5 hour connection time was now gone and I was still on the previous flight. They then decided to deplane us via the rear door and bus us to customs and immigration. The problem with this was that instead of just letting us walk up the stairs into the thermal and going through customs and immigration where we were supposed to, they bused us all the way across the airport... Literally to the farthest spot away from where we parked. To a customs and immigration facility with 2 officials who were not prepared to take on 300 passengers from a full 747-8. There were only the 2 agents on duty... And none of the EU electronic gates were working, so everyone had to funnel through those 2 poor agents. That process, coupled with the 30 minute walk I had to make to get back to my next gate, in a completely different terminal, ate up the rest of my connection and is what ultimately led to me almost missing this flight!
