Cat Rescue #190 - Gainesville Kitty, Six Days High Over a Ravine

This rescue was difficult because of the location of the tree and the false moves of the cat.

The tree was located on a steep ravine in Gainesville, GA. The cat was initially about 60 feet in the tree but as I placed the rope in the tree, the cat decided to go higher and further out on the tree. Now the cat was about 100 feet above this steep ravine and on a limb that I had no way of attempting a rescue by hand.

I decided to place a trap on the tree limb baited with food. In order to do this, I had to do a twenty-five foot transverse from another tree to the tree that the cat was in. Setting up the trap was successful just before it got dark. The next morning I was informed that the cat was not in the trap. This was disappointing because my options for a successful rescue were very limited.

When I arrived, the cat was right beside the trap. We watched from a distance as the cat went into the trap. The trap did not spring shut even though the cat was now laying down in the trap.

I decided to go up and manually spring the trap if the cat did not again bolt up the tree limb. I did a sprint to the trap. Cotton, watched me manually spring the trap with him in it. He was not happy, but now he was safe.
