Nismo Skyline R34 R-Tune Concept

Описание к видео Nismo Skyline R34 R-Tune Concept

Talk about a car with a history!

Background information: Nismo made the R-Tune package available for pretty much every R34 GT-R. Any R34 GT-R owner could take his car to the Nismo factory to convert it to an R-tune. However, not many people did that (it was very expensive). In total Nismo built approximately 25 genuine R-tune Skylines (source: https://www.whichcar.com.au/features/....

But the Skyline that you see in this video was not one of those 25 R-tunes. It's slightly more unique than that: It's the very first R34 GT-R that was converted to an R-Tune 'concept'. The car started its life as a 'regular' 1999 R34 GT-R V-spec. Nismo used this particular car (among two others) for research and development of the R-Tune package before they made this package available to the customers. That's also why this car has the "R34-R-001" chassis number.

When the car was finished back in 2003, Nismo took it to the Nürburgring for testing (as you can see in the video). Together with a Z-Tune and a Falken R34 racecar, the Nismo test drivers took the R-Tune Concept multiple laps around the Nordschleife. They did a very neat photoshoot with GT-R Magazine as well. A Dutch motorsports enthusiast was at the Nürburgring as a spectator that day. He saw the blue R-Tune Concept and immediately fell in love with the car. He approached the guys from Nismo and asked if they were willing to sell the car. Some time later the deal was closed. In May 2004 the car was officially imported to The Netherlands and registered on Dutch license plates (fun fact: back then it was the very first R34 Skyline ever to be imported to continental Europe). Years went by and the Dutch owner of the R-Tune Concept did not keep the car in its stock Nismo trim. He decided to put aftermarket parts on it (rims, bodykit, brakes etc.), as well as a big single turbo.

Fast forward a couple of years, to 2017. The R-Tune Concept was sold to a new owner (second owner, also a Dutch guy). Fortunately the new owner had plans to rebuild the car with all the original Nismo parts. His goal was to make it a stock Nismo R-Tune, exactly identical to the R-Tune Skylines that were built in the Omori Factory. After a few months and many hours of work the project was done. The car now has all the genuine Nismo R-Tune parts and even has the R-Tune striping and decals. The only difference is that it has the Z-Tune front bumper instead of an R-Tune one.

Under the hood you'll still find the original fully Nismo built R1 engine (now with the Garrett twin turbo setup that it came with from the Omori Factory). The coolest thing about the engine is the badge that says "serial no. 001".
