In the women’s, the Italian Lucrezia Casu wins the 14 km showpiece

Last weekend the first Oceanman Lago d’Orta was held in Italy with an excellent turnout of 600 swimmers of 19 nationalities at Lido de Gozzano, in the heart of the Piedmont region.

The day began at 10 am with the showpiece event: the 14 km Oceanman starting in Omegna and finishing on the beautiful Lido di Gozzano Beach. The Italians Tamborrino and Rivellini stopped the clock with a time of 2:59, crossing the finishing line together. Alessandro Gesini completed the men’s podium in this long-distance race. In the women’s, the Italian Lucrezia Casu (who was third in the Palamós Oceanman) was victorious with a time of 3:06, just in front of her compatriots Erika Audasso and Daniela Sabatini.

At 2 pm the Half-Oceanman 4.5 km event got underway with a brisk pace set from the start. The extremely young athlete Ricardo Stuani was first with a time of 1:00:43, followed by Marco Leoni (1:00:52) and Christopher Ronzani 4 minutes behind the leader. In the women’s, Monica Olmi won convincingly with a time of 1:04:27, beating Simona Baravalle (1:09:16) and Sonia Oliva (1:13:05).

The day ended with another 130 swimmers taking part in the popular, non-competitive 1.3 km race that linked Miami Beach with Lido di Gozzano, with the finishing line for the three courses located at the latter.

Next, the big European Oceanman Championship will be held in Benidorm (Spain) on 25 October, bringing together the best swimmers from all of the Oceanman events.
