Thales Starstreak, also known as the Starstreak High Velocity Missile, is a British short-range man-portable air-defence system. With a claimed range of more than 7 km, Starstreak is a laser-guided precision weapon that has low collateral damage. It is also reportedly the fastest short-range surface-to-air system in the world, with a peak velocity above Mach 3. The 14 kg missile makes it a flexible weapon that can be launched from light land, sea, and air platforms. Starstreak has been in service with the British Army since 1997. The StarStreak High Velocity Missile was designed to provide close air defense against conventional air threats such as fixed-wing fighters and late unmasking helicopter targets. There are many variants of the system such as Air to Air starstreak that can be fired from a helicopter, Lightweight multiople launcher strarstreak that can be mounted on a light vehicle, Sea streak that be mounted on a naval vessel, sel-propelled that can be carried in an armoured fighting vehicle and the Starstreak mark II which is the upgrade of the starstreak.
