Here’s how to start finding direct shipper leads using work you already did 👇

1️⃣ Pull your Bill of Lading 📄
Every BOL has two names on it
• The shipper
• The receiver

Both of them ship freight.
Both of them run lanes.
Both of them already trusted you with their freight.

That matters.

2️⃣ Do NOT ask for the same lane 🚫
If you ran the load through a broker, don’t touch that lane.
Ask about similar lanes or other freight they move.
That keeps you clean and professional.

3️⃣ Turn past loads into a lead list 🧠
Write down shipper and receiver names from loads you already ran.
Those aren’t cold leads.
That’s warm experience.

4️⃣ Show up prepared, not desperate 📂
Have a simple carrier packet ready
• Who you are
• Where you run
• What equipment you have
• What problems you solve

Keep it clear. Keep it honest.

5️⃣ If they’re local, go in person 🏢
Tell the receptionist you’re dropping off a carrier packet and want to speak with the shipping manager about a load you previously ran.

You already did business.
You’re not a stranger.

6️⃣ Ask questions before you pitch 🗣️
Ask what lanes are hard to cover.
Ask what hasn’t worked before.
Then explain how you can help specifically with that.

7️⃣ Ask for a trial, not a contract 🤝
30–60 days.
One or two lanes.
No pressure.

If they say yes, deliver flawlessly.
That’s how consistency replaces chaos.
