Class 117 Diesel Railcar Multiple Unit
Comprising cars W51405 (DMS), W59510 (TCL), W51363 (DMBS), this Class 117 unit was purchased in 2011 by Cotswold Diesel Railcar Limited and is now running services from Toddington.


Origin : Built by Pressed Steel between 1959 and 1961, these 3-car units spent most of their lives on the commuter services out of London, Paddington, Plymouth and Cardiff.

Engine/power : 2 x Leyland 680 150hp driving through 4-speed epicyclic gearboxes on each power car.

Length over buffers :64 feet x 3
Working weight: Power car: 36 tons , Trailer: 30 tons
Maximum speed : 70 mph





This video is filmed from the rear car's cab as well as from the outside of the unit at certain times to provide different views of the route. Also making an appearance in this video with his moment of comedy is my friend John Potter.
The train departs from Toddington from Platform 1 , switching tracks at the yard's perimeter to join the single track line down past Didbrook and Hailes Abbey to Winchcombe Station.
Upon leaving Winchcombe , the train disappears into the 693 yard long Greet Tunnel, emerging just inside the village itself, and carries on for another 2 and a half miles to a small private station at Gotherington Halt , now owned by a rail enthusiast and is a private property.
The train then departs, passing through the areas of Gotherington , Woodmancote and Bishops Cleeve before emerging under Kayte Lane bridge to the perimeter of the famous Cheltenham Racecourse, slowing down on the approach to the station itself.
