Konark Sun Temple (Odisha)

Built by: King Narasimhadeva I (Ganga Dynasty) in the 13th century

Dedicated to: Surya (Sun God)

Architectural Style: Kalinga architecture

Significance:

Designed as a giant chariot with 12 intricately carved wheels and seven stone horses.

The wheels act as sundials, accurately measuring time.

UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its historical and artistic significance.

Known for sculptures depicting daily life, mythology, and celestial beings.

Often called the "Black Pagoda" by sailors due to its dark stone color.

Brihadeshwara Temple (Tamil Nadu)

Built by: Raja Raja Chola I in 1010 CE

Dedicated to: Lord Shiva

Architectural Style: Dravidian architecture

Significance:

One of the largest temples in India, made entirely of granite.

The Vimana (temple tower) is 66 meters high, with a massive capstone (believed to be placed using a long inclined ramp).

The temple has a huge Nandi (sacred bull) statue, carved from a single stone.

The walls have inscriptions detailing the Chola dynasty's achievements.

It remains a functioning temple with regular rituals.
