Dr Alice Hayward, QAAFI Research Fellow was interviewed by WIN NEWS about the research conduced through Neena Mitter's lab at QAAFI on the research QAAFI's Centre for Plant Science is doing with Avocado plants.

“This world-leading, Queensland-owned technology will overcome the bottleneck of a shortage of high-quality planting material that is currently crippling industry expansion, and conservative estimates predict Queensland avocado farmers will be able to double production to 70,000 tonnes a year creating industry growth and jobs in the region.” - Innovation Minister Leeanne Enoch

Professor Neena Mitter, from the Queensland Alliance for Agriculture and Food Innovation at the University of Queensland, said the grant would enable the researchers and industry partners to launch field trials early next year.

“There are Queensland farmers who want to expand their avocado orchards, and entrepreneurs who want to enter the avocado farming industry, but they cannot get source plants to grow because of a global shortage of trees,” Professor Mitter said.
