The National Center for the Study of Civil Rights and African-American Culture at Alabama State University is sponsoring a three-panel virtual series titled Civic Engagement in the COVID Era and Beyond. The series will feature discussions on civic engagement in the 21st century. This panel series falls under the National Center’s Voting Rights Research and Repository Project (VRRRP).

Part I of the program, “The 2020 Election: Why Is It Important?,” is at 2 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23. The program examines the potential implications of the 2020 election.

Part II of the series, “Absentee Voting: Convenience or Corruption,” is set for 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 24. This segment addresses concerns around COVID-19 as it pertains to absentee voting in preparation for the November election. This discussion will dispel myths, present facts, and give viewers the opportunity to learn how to apply for absentee ballots if they so choose.

Part III, “Racism and Home Rule: The Alabama Constitution Past and Present,” will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25. This series will address the 1901 Alabama Constitution and proposed amendments to the constitution on the ballot this November.
