EDITORS are DIRECTORS: The best, and most efficient, Directors are usually those that know the mechanics, and nuts-n-bolts, of Editing... EDITING SOFTWARE (FREE-$2,000) is cheap and easy to learn, what is difficult is developing the craft of when to cut-in, when to cut-out, what to cut-to and when not-to-cut. But Editors are always saving the Directors ass so, in essence, Editors are, and almost always want to be, the Director.
Establishing Shot, DISSOLVE TO Master Shot, CUT TO Medium Shot 1, CUT TO Medium Shot 2, CUT TO Close-up, CUT to Reaction Shot 1, Reaction Shot 2, Reaction Shot 3, CUT TO Medium Shot 1, CUT TO Closeup....
If you, the first-time filmmaker, learn how to do these cuts, which anyone can merely by reading the editing software manual, but practice it and GET A RHYTHM...then you are ready to be a Director in my opinion, more so than some Broadway Stage Director who believes he/she is great with talking to actors and getting them to....
The nuts-and-bolts.
Editors know the nuts-and-bolts of Directing.
Now, let's look at some of the cheap Editing Software that is available for you to learn. Want to be a Director? Learn how to Edit? Want to be an Editor? Then purchase 1-2 editing software programs and learn.
