On April 17, 2024, a FedEx package containing 54 vintage baseball cards valued at $2.1 million was delivered to the Best Western in Strongsville, Ohio, for a nearby card conference. Hotel employee Jacob Paxton allegedly rifled through incoming packages, stole the box, and took it to the Cleveland home of his accomplice, Jason Bowling. On May 23, 2024, police executed a search warrant at Bowling’s residence, recovering 52 of the 54 cards. The two still missing is a 1909 T204 Ramly Walter Johnson (PSA grade 5) and a 1941 “Play Ball” #14 Ted Williams (PSA grade 8)—are valued at approximately $90,000 in total.Jacob Paxton: Pleaded guilty to aggravated theft of $1.5 million or more. On December 16, 2024, he was sentenced to 4 to 6 years in prison and ordered to pay $90k in restitution for the two missing vintage baseball cards.
• Jason Bowling: Pleaded guilty to receiving stolen property. He was sentenced to one year of community control (probation) on December 16, 2024.
