The QBZ-191 is a 5.8×42mm assault rifle developed by Norinco for the People’s Liberation Army (PLA) of China. Introduced in 2019, the QBZ-191 replaces the QBZ-95 bullpup rifle, offering improved ergonomics, accuracy, and modularity for modern warfare. This rifle marks a shift from bullpup designs to a more conventional layout, enhancing handling and compatibility with accessories.

The QBZ-191 uses a short-stroke gas piston system, similar to the HK416 and FN SCAR, which increases reliability and reduces recoil, making it effective in various combat environments. The rifle is designed with a monolithic upper receiver featuring a full-length Picatinny rail, allowing soldiers to mount optics, lasers, and other attachments.

China has developed multiple versions of the QBZ-191 to suit different roles:

Standard version (14.5-inch barrel) – Used by infantry forces for general combat.

Carbine version (10.5-inch barrel) – Designed for vehicle crews and special operations.

Designated marksman variant (20-inch barrel) – Equipped with advanced optics for long-range engagements.

With a cyclic rate of around 750 rounds per minute and an effective range of up to 500 meters, the QBZ-191 provides enhanced accuracy and firepower. Its traditional rifle design, improved build quality, and modern features make it a significant upgrade for the Chinese military, ensuring superior performance on the battlefield for years to come
