The Caipirinha like many other cocktails was originally used to fight ailments. It is believed that this cocktail became popular to help people fight the Spanish Flu.

The Caiprinha is the national drink of Brazil, and while it is a simple cocktail and very similar to a daiquiri it contains a very unique alcohol -- cachaça.

Cachaça is a rum, but not a rum.. Your standard rum is made from Molasses a by-product from the production of sugar, however, cachaça is made from pure cane juice. This gives cachaça the more natural flavors of a sugar cane including grassy herbaceous notes. Giving this cocktail a unique flavor that may take a few sips to get used to, but once you do.. keep em coming!

Caipirinha Recipe:

⚈ 2oz (60ml) Cachaça
⚈ 1 Whole Lime depithed and Quartered
⚈ 1 Tablespoon Fine sugar

Add lime and sugar into your glass and lightly muddle to extract lime juice

Next add your cachaça, then add ice.

I have seen this drink stirred, but I prefer a quick 5 second shake.

Pour back into your glass and enjoy!
