Cyclone Gabrielle Evacuation of Taradale | Documentary Photography
After a morning of rain, wind, rescues, and a nervous wait for a bridge to collapse we all got an emergency message from Civil Defense to evacuate parts of the Napier suburb of Taradale as fear of another stop bank breach or failure grew stronger. I had a choice stay at the bridge in case it collapsed, which would make amazing shots, or hitch a lift into Taradale for the guarantee of people pictures.
This is another part of an Incredible unforgettable day.
Best wishes to all who suffered damage to their homes, or those older folk, and people with disabilities who's lives were thrown into turmoil by this weather event. Huge well done to all those who pulled together to make this large scale evacuation a seamless success. This was a day out of any box I've ever been close to, just an emotional roller coaster ride.
