Summary of the interview:

Double Olympian Bas van de Goor has an incredible athletes resume, Olympic Champion 1996, voted MVP Most Valuable Player at the Olympics Games 1996 in Atlanta and the Sydney 2000 Olympic Games; three-peat Champions League winner, multiple European Champion, World League winner, Euro League winner, Volleyball Hall-of-Famer and last but not least his coach Joop Alberda named him the Michael Jordan of Volleyball.
Bas outlines how he suffered severe physical challenges and illnesses during his professional Volleyball career.
He shares how the Dutch Volleyball team lost all major finals for 4 years until they came to the Olympic final at the Atlanta Olympics in 1996, where they faced Italy. Within these 4 years, the last 2 years prior to the Olympic final they lost all major finals to Italy. Bas describes how the pressure was extremely high to win that Olympic final. He relives that very close match where they were a match point down and then clinched the Olympic title in the last set.
Bas explains how the Netherlands as reigning Olympic champion had difficulties to qualify for the 2000 Olympic Games, how they qualified as the last team, then played a good tournament and lost a very close match to Yugoslavia in the quarterfinal in 5 sets. After that Yugoslavia went on to win the semi-final and the final in straight set, which left Bas van de Goor and his teammates wondering, what could have been possible if they would have won that quarter-final.
He describes how competing at the highest level in the Italian Volleyball club competition has made him the best Volleyball player he can possibly be. How he learned to start every year all over again and not be satisfied with your past successes.
