Russian authorities say they have arrested two suspects linked to an assassination attempt on Lieutenant General Vladimir Alekseev, Russia’s first deputy chief of the Main Intelligence Directorate (GRU). The Federal Security Service (FSB) claims the alleged gunman was detained in Dubai with the help of UAE authorities and extradited to Russia, while an alleged accomplice was arrested in Moscow. Investigators allege the suspect was acting on instructions from Ukraine’s security services. The FSB has also released video footage it says shows the attacker fleeing the scene and discarding a silenced weapon, as Moscow frames the case as a foiled terrorist plot.
