Spirituality-How to Receive Answers

Is it okay to ask questions on the spiritual path? If there were no questions, the human race would have not progressed thus far. We should definitely ask questions, otherwise it would be impossible to quench our thirst for knowledge. As a teacher or as a Guru, one must clearly let people know if they know the answer to a question or not based on their area of expertise. For example, I have told people time and again, my only area of expertise is Meditation. Everything else is still ongoing learning.

However, the greatest barrier to getting an answer is in receptivity and readiness of the person asking the question. People only receive information with emotion, never with reason. What suits them emotionally, they justify with reason. And they can only assess the value of someone, or something based on their knowledge. Thus, it is the job of teacher or a Guru to make them realize their value to help them grow and evolve. In Buddha’s lifetime why were there only handful of enlightened people? Similarly, Christ walked on this planet some 2000 years ago, but why did he appoint only 12 Apostles? Because, it is so easy to lose the sight of the truth and get caught up in the materiality of the truth which holds no significance. That’s why on the spiritual path, readiness of the disciple is the single most important factor that determines how much they can receive from the guru.
