Prague Walking Tour: The Royal Route, part 1 (discovering its modern-day charm and timeless beauty).

Dear friends, today we will discover the charm, modern-day beauty and timeless romance of historic Prague's Royal Route, the kings' coronation path from the 14th to 19th century.
The ceremonial route begins at the Powder Tower and ends at Prague Castle.
It's not only a significant historical and cultural path but also a popular tourist attraction.
Today, the Royal Route in Prague remains a vibrant and historically rich path, attracting numerous tourists who want to walk in the footsteps of kings.

In this video we started at the Republic Square (Náměstí Republiky) and on the way to the beginning of the Royal Path admired the stunning Art Neuveau building, MUNICIPAL HOUSE (Obecní dům).

The main landmarks of the Royal Route are:
1. Powder Gate Tower (Part 1)
2. Celetna Street (Part 1)
3. Old Town Square
4. Charles Street
5. Charles Bridge
6. Lesser Town Square
7. Nerudova Street
8. Prague Castle

1. POWDER GATE TOWER:
The starting point of the Royal Route is the gothic tower, Powder Gate Tower and once it was a part of the city's fortifications and served as a gunpowder store.
Visitors can climb it for a panoramic view of the city.

2. CELETNA STREET:
It is a historic street lined with Baroque, Gothic, and Neoclassical buildings and it leads from the Powder Gate tower to Old Town Square.
This bustling street is lined with shops, cafes, museums, and restaurants. Historic buildings now house modern establishments, blending the old with new.
Celetna street in Prague got its name from the word "calty", which refers to a type of white bread roll that was traditionally baked by the bakers who lived and worked on the street during medieval times.
The street has a long history and was an important part of the Royal Route, adding to its historical significance.
Celetna street boasts fantastic architecture, blending Gothic, Baroque, and Neoclassical styles.
Before Empress Maria Theresa introduced house numbers, homes were identified by beautiful symbols and signs, adding to the street's historical charm.
You can find here the Golden Angel, White lion, Red Eagle, White Peacock etc.

One of the notable architectural highlights on this street include the House at the Black Madonna, an example of Cubist architecture. It houses a cubist museum and a stylish cafe.

So, enjoy!
