I had some hands-on time to try it out before launch and here are my first thoughts, as well as all the new features you need to know about

DESIGN
Looks like the Ultra and the 6 Classic had a baby

Squircle

For years, we were going for a better screen to body ratio with thinner bezels, and then this squircle design just throws that all out the window

2 colors, black and silver

Comes with a leather hybrid strap

Physical rotating bezel (talk about this for a bit)
Feels more deliberate than before thanks to ridges

Now has a third button on the side

Strap mechanism changed

Biosensor has changes

Now only comes in one size - 46mm (used to be 43 & 47mm)
Display size matches smaller galaxy watch8 with 1.37” screen

Now significantly brighter, with new peak brightness of 3000 nits

Higher number is better. Many modern diets are deficient in fruits and vegetables

This is not FDA approved

Uses LEDs in the biosensor to detect something on your skin. Apparently it was accurate enough. I scored 57/100 which is not great I do eat a lot of fruits, but I guess I could eat more vegetables. When I get one in the studio, I’ll do repeat testing to see if it is consistent and see if I can change it with diet

I was told it takes up to 2 weeks to move your score significantly

GEMINI
Now I know AI is thrown around a ton, and I am the first to say most of it is just marketing garbage. For example, I never ever use the Now Brief on my samsung phone. It just tells me the weather and gives a random unrelated spotify playlist.

But this? This is actually significant. I’ve been saying for years watches need voice AI features the most.

Voice commands to start workouts, (pizza example)

inquire about health stats,

and even do complex things like start a workout AND start my playlist

Plus normal Gemini stuff you would expect. I can see this being useful for cooking or other situations where phone isn't available

Not perfect yet. I am excited to try it and find the limits. For example, I can ask about my sleep, but can I ask for a run workout to improve my HRV given my current status or injuries?

FITNESS CHANGES

Some other changes expected, but still no triathlon tracking unless you manually create a multisport routine. Does have multiband L1 & L5 GPS, still has ECG, bioimpedance, etc.
