The Irishman | Umbertos Clam House | “Crazy” Joe Gallo

Описание к видео The Irishman | Umbertos Clam House | “Crazy” Joe Gallo

In the wee hours of April 7, 1972 “Crazy Joe" Gallo (played by Sebastian Maniscalco), one of the most vicious mobsters in the Mafia, decided to continue celebrating his birthday (after a night seeing Don Rickles at the Copacabana with friend Jerry Orbach) with his wife and daughter at Umbertos Clam House in Little Italy, New York City. This famous restaurant, originally located on the northwest corner of Mulberry and Hester Streets, opened in February of 1972 and was mob-owned. It was only two months after it opened that this infamous gangland hit of Gallo took place inside and outside the restaurant where he died on the sidewalk inches from the gutter. His wife said four short, Italian-looking guys shot him and his bodyguard, Pete “The Greek.” The New York Police Department believed it was a lone gunman. The police disseminated information that it was multiple gunmen so, when tips came in for a lone gunmen, those were the leads they would follow. Gallo's wife, Sina, screamed out loud to all at the funeral, “There will be blood on the streets, Joey!” And there was. Hitmen from Vegas were sent up and mistakenly shot four innocent people and killed two of them. There never was any indictments on the Gallo hit. However, in the film 'The Irishman,’ the script by Steven Zaillian, based on the book by Charles Brandt, uses circumstantial evidence and the opinion of "mob experts," that Frank Sheeran (played by Robert De Niro) made the hit at the behest of Russell Bufalino (played by Joe Pesci). They had enough of Crazy Joe’s reckless ways and his birthday was appropriate and in front of his wide and daughter. It is now only folklore who did it. But Joe Gallo died on that corner where the name “Umbertos” is engraved on the corner of the sidewalk where he bled to death like a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. This was no acting award. This was the real deal and New York takes the cake when it comes to mob hits.
