HELIOS 44-2 - My Best Lens For Video...after 47 years of photography with it. (Pt.1)

Whether it's on a Canon M50, Panasonic GH3, GH4, GH5, EOS R, BMPCC, Sony A7S III, the Helios 44-2 is a vintage lens that has poetry and stories in it...
Helios 44-2 is my best lens for video because of the unique way it draws, its imperfections make it utterly perfect to me, the stepless aperture ring is made for video, and the focus throw is long. And they're a CHEAP lens for video even now.
I've owned this Helios 44-2 since 1974. I've used it for photography ever since for hobby & work. Now I'm hooked on making video...although I know almost nothing about it - yet.

(This video was shot entirely using the Helios 44-2 apart from the shots of the actual lens which were shot with a Canon EF 50mm 1.8 STM).

GEAR I used:

Canon M50
Viltrox EF-M2 af speedbooster
Helios 44-2 58mm f/2
K+F Concept variable ND filter.

Shot in 1080p 25fps, slow motion shots were 100fps @ 720p.
(Rendered in 4K simply because the You Tube compression is savage on 1080 uploads).
*This lens on say, my 'dream camera' - Panasonic GH5 - being a 10-bit camera - is just perfection.
All gradients suffer from banding on 8-bit, and I HATE the banding that shows up even worse under YT compression lol! - but the Canon M50 is the perfect YT creator camera to me. That auto focus with speedbooster and STM lenses is golden.
But if I get serious with video/film making and actually learn how to do it - then a GH5 is my dream camera.

All footage straight out of camera - no grading - using custom Picture Profile.

I usually use a Tiffen Black Pro Mist 1/4 filter on everything I shoot because it helps a lot with highlight roll-off with 8-bit cameras.
I didn't use it for this video because I wanted an honest look through the Helios.

Edited on Davinci Resolve 15 (free version) - on a fairly weak computer...
