Daniel Tellalian explores strategies for intentionally leveraging public investments in river restoration to grow the local economy, expand opportunity and build wealth in community.

Mr. Tellalian is the founder and CEO of Angel City Advisors. He served as a founding board member and 3-term Chair of the Los Angeles River Revitalization Corporation, now RiverLA (www.riverla.org). The mission of RiverLA is to establish the Los Angeles River as the heart of a healthy, vibrant and resilient region.

This presentation, organized by W.K. Kellogg Foundation, City of Grand Rapids and Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., was part of a local effort to better understand how other communities have successfully organized around post-industrial urban revitalization projects to support community development and neighborhood improvement, particularly in areas that have experienced decades of poverty, unequal growth and racial/ethnic segregation.

The lessons and learning help to inform and guide the multi-faceted work of designing a community-driven organizational framework capable of executing on the local vision for a restored and revitalized Grand River flowing through our urban core.

The audience is comprised of elected, appointed, staff and volunteer leaders from the City of Grand Rapids, the Downtown Development Authority, Grand Rapids Whitewater, Downtown Grand Rapids Inc., Grand Rapids Community College, West Michigan Center for Art & Technology, LINC UP, The Source, Local First, West Michigan Works!, Chamber(s) of Commerce, the philanthropic community and others.
