Practice at home - drawing and holster exercise

Описание к видео Practice at home - drawing and holster exercise

Brian Wang, instructor at Monarch Defense, shows a dry exercise you can do at home to practice drawing your pistol and holstering. We highly recommend going through this exercise and repeating this at home until you are comfortable with all the motions to prepare for Dynamic Drills day and other intermediate and advanced classes.

Before you begin any dry practice at home, make sure that your gun is clear and in a safe condition.

We recommend going through these positions slowly about 25% speed at first. As you get more comfortable with the steps, increase the speed while maintaining good form.

Begin with your feet shoulder width apart and one foot slightly ahead of the other. Place your weight on your forward foot. Consider this to be your power stance.

Place your support side hand out of the way. If you are clearing a cover garment, pull the hem of your garment all the way up to your armpit. If you don't have a cover garment, place your hand on your chest.

Pull your gun straight up out of the holster. Make sure you are drawing straight up.

Next, drop your elbow. Watch the video carefully. As the elbow drops, the muzzle rises in the direction of the target. This is your first available firing position. If you are joining us for close range or force on force classes, you will be shooting from this position.

From this position, you can bring your hands together on the gun close to your chest. This is your high compressed ready position. It is like neutral in a car. All positions return to this position before moving to the next.

Extend your arms, acquire your sight picture and press the trigger.

Return to high compressed ready. When you are ready to holster your gun, put your feet together and place your thumb on the back of the slide. If you have a hammer fired gun, hold the hammer in place with your thumb.

Look at your gun as you reholster. This step can be slow. Since the fight is over, you are not in a hurry.
