Описание к видео October 8th - Rising to the Challenge - The Meuse-Argonne Offensive

On October 8, 1918, during the Meuse-Argonne Offensive, an American soldier named Corporal Alvin C. York, who had initially registered as a conscientious objector, found himself in command after his platoon suffered heavy casualties. Leading just seven men, he charged a German machine-gun nest that was decimating his unit. Using his skills as a Tennessee sharpshooter, York and his small squad killed at least 25 German soldiers, captured 35 machine guns, and took 132 prisoners. This single act of incredible bravery shattered the German line in his sector and saved his battalion from potential defeat. For his actions on this day, he was promoted to Sergeant and awarded the Medal of Honor.
