The archetype of the genie comes from ancient Arabian and Islamic mythology. Traditionally, genies or jinn were powerful spirits made of smokeless fire. But unlike the Western portrayal of the genie trapped in a lamp, traditional jinn were complex beings with their own free will, capable of both good and evil. The genie archetype has evolved over centuries through various cultural narratives.

The idea of a genie trapped in a lamp, ready to grant three wishes, comes from the famous Middle Eastern collection of stories known as "One Thousand and One Nights," also known as "Arabian Nights." One of the most famous stories from this collection is that of Aladdin, where the concept of a genie confined to a lamp was popularized.

The lamp itself symbolizes a hidden potential and the unlocking of powers, representing the idea that incredible magic can be found in the most ordinary of objects.

The tales of genies often explore themes of morality and consequence. The granting of wishes typically comes with unforeseen repercussions, teaching valuable lessons about greed, desire, and the universal quest for transformation. Genies also remind us that magic and mystery are always just a wish away… but to always be careful what you wish for.
