Welcome to our Sunday First Service sermon, where we dive deep into the Bible exposition on Genesis 18:1-32. In this passage, we explore Abraham's profound encounter with God and the lessons we can learn about faith, intercession, and God's divine timing.

Key Scriptures and Insights:

Genesis 18:1-2 (NKJV): "Then the Lord appeared to him by the terebinth trees of Mamre, as he was sitting in the tent door in the heat of the day. So he lifted his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing by him; and when he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them, and bowed himself to the ground."

Hospitality and Faith: Abraham's response to the divine visitors shows the importance of hospitality. As Hebrews 13:1-2 reminds us, "Let brotherly love continue. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some have unwittingly entertained angels." Abraham’s encounter also represents the second appearance of Jesus Christ in the Old Testament.
Genesis 18:10, 14 (NKJV): "And He said, 'I will certainly return to you according to the time of life, and behold, Sarah your wife shall have a son.' ... 'Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.'"

God's Timing and Power: God operates on His appointed timeline. As seen in Matthew 19:26, "But Jesus looked at them and said to them, 'With men this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.'" No situation is too difficult for God, and His promises will be fulfilled at the right time.
Genesis 18:13-15 (NKJV): "And the Lord said to Abraham, 'Why did Sarah laugh, saying, "Shall I surely bear a child, since I am old?" Is anything too hard for the Lord?'"

Faith and Belief: It was Abraham’s unwavering faith that brought about God’s promise to Sarah. Romans 4:19-22 highlights that Abraham believed in God’s power despite their old age, and his faith was credited to him as righteousness.
Genesis 18:22-23 (NKJV): "Then the men turned away from there and went toward Sodom, but Abraham still stood before the Lord. And Abraham came near and said, 'Would You also destroy the righteous with the wicked?'"

Intercession and Advocacy: Abraham takes a bold position of intercession on behalf of Sodom, pleading with God to spare the city if righteous people are found. This demonstrates the power of prayer and standing in the gap for others, much like Daniel did for Israel.
Genesis 18:27 (NKJV): "Then Abraham answered and said, 'Indeed now, I who am but dust and ashes have taken it upon myself to speak to the Lord.'"

Humility in Prayer: Abraham acknowledges his unworthiness yet continues to intercede for Sodom. True intercession requires humility and recognizing our dependence on God's mercy.
Lessons from Sodom and Gomorrah:

Ezekiel 16:49 (NKJV): "Look, this was the iniquity of your sister Sodom: She and her daughter had pride, fullness of food, and abundance of idleness; neither did she strengthen the hand of the poor and needy."
Jude 1:7 (NKJV): "As Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire."
The Cause of Outcry: Sodom's sins were not just acts of immorality but included pride, neglect of the needy, and idleness. Their lifestyle led to God's judgment, reminding us to examine what God knows about us and whether our lives reflect His righteousness.
God’s Friendship with Abraham:

James 2:23 (NKJV): "And the Scripture was fulfilled which says, 'Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness.' And he was called the friend of God."
Isaiah 41:8 (NKJV): "But you, Israel, are My servant, Jacob whom I have chosen, the descendants of Abraham My friend."
God walked with Abraham as His friend, teaching us the value of a personal relationship with God that is built on faith, trust, and obedience.
As you reflect on this powerful exposition of Genesis 18:1-32, consider what God knows vividly about you and the legacy you are building in your generation. Let this message inspire you to deepen your faith and trust in God's perfect timing and power.
