🎯 Post-recording update: After we wrapped this episode, the 3.5x telephoto camera leak, initially reported back in April 2025, had slipped off our radar — but it’s now resurfaced and is gaining traction again. Recent reports are once again highlighting the possibility of a 48MP 3.5x telephoto lens on the iPhone 17 Pro. While we discussed sensor upgrades and assumed the 5x would remain, this new development is very promising.
A 3.5x lens could restore compatibility with external lenses, similar to older iPhone models. Combined with a larger 48MP sensor and a more "classic" lens design, this could result in a beautiful portrait camera with more natural shallow depth of field and improved in-camera zoom range, offering longer reach and better options than the current 12MP 5X Tele camera on iPhones 16 Pro Series.
