Centennial College’s Biotechnology program is a two-year program that prepares students to work as bench technicians in the food, pharmaceutical and cosmetic industries. There is a project approach feature, with independently designed microbiology assignments that enhance the students problem-solving and research skills. Hands-on training in industrial microbiology as well as chemistry, organic and biochemistry is provided and they learn to isolate, enumerate and identify microorganisms from many types of samples. They prepare specimens for staining and even have the ability to become expert light-microscopists through the program.
