9 SPOONS at THE BAYLEAF Lunch Buffet
The Bayleaf is an ancient aromatic, antiseptic plant and a popular culinary flavoring that is also called sweet laurel or bay laurel. Its glossy dark-green, oval pointed leaves are used to weave a victorious Roman general's crown or laurels for it is a symbol of victory and wisdom.
The Spanish introduced the bayleaf to the Philippines in the 16th century which influenced our culinary traditions.
Hello, fellow FOOD TRIPPERS! Please join us on this FOOD TRIP to feast together for a lunch buffet at 9 SPOONS of THE BAYLEAF. A stylish hotel located at Muralla Street within the historical grounds of INTRAMUROS, the landmark of the Old City of Manila.
The menu at 9 SPOONS features classic Filipino dishes, some Spanish, Japanese, American, and Italian that favors the taste of both local and foreign diners.
9 SPOONS is aptly named for the 9 food stations they have in the buffet: The Starter, Bakery, Soup, Salad, Main Course, Carving, Pasta, Hot and Cold Desserts, including the Beverage Station.
For a great start, we nibble on some triangular-shaped crispy crackers called, Lavosh. It is best spread with the tasty smoked fish pate and the smooth and creamy chicken liver pate.
Also at the Bakery Station are the simplest of bread, soft rolls and slices of French bread. They are best eaten hot from the oven with melted butter, and a great accompaniment to a bowl of delicious carrot and pumpkin soup with crispy croutons. It is a powerful meal combination that sets up our palate to crave more.
At the Salad Station are Potato Salad, Caesar's Salad, Assorted Salad Greens, and Dressings of Roasted Sesame, Italian and Ranch, and some assorted Maki.
At the Main Course Station are dishes of Filipino favorites like Squid Ink Noodle, Bangus Bistek, Spicy Pork Sausage, Steamed Clams, Chicken Barbeque, and Paksiw na Bagnet served with Steamed Rice.
Appetizingly served at the Carving Station are slices of tender and delicious US Beef Short Plate with gravy, roasted garlic, onions, and carrots on the sides.
In a multi-course meal, pasta is usually served on the side along with the main course. The Pasta Station favorably comes with 3 choices of pasta dishes namely Alfredo (rich and creamy white sauce), Pomodoro (traditionally tomato-based sauce), and Pesto ( a bright green basil-based sauce).
Nothing closes a meal without a treat of sweet-tasting foods that are considered life's little pleasures. 9 SPOONS Hot Dessert comes with an interesting version of Ensaymada Pudding. It is a classic dessert but a rare find in the repertoire of dishes of other buffets.
We are lucky that the buffet has our family's favorite pudding. It brings happy memories of childhood, when our mom, Nanay Tuding used to cook this dessert with day-old bread or stale bread. For us this old-fashioned pudding has never gone out of fashion and still pleases our taste buds, perfectly served with vanilla cream sauce.
The Cold Desserts on the other hand offers healthy options of fresh fruits of sweet watermelon and pineapple. While sweet-toothed lovers enjoyed creating their version of Halo-Halo with the 9 varieties of sweet ingredients elevated by the creamy custard Leche Flan. Cake lovers can't take their eyes off the triple treat of Chocolate Cake, Brazo de Mercedes, and the airy meringues with golden sauce and mango balls called, Canonigo. A cup of hot Cappuccino and/or hot tea brought the whole feast to a grand finale.
So if you are looking for a decent place to celebrate life's special occasion, or want to spend a little quality time together on a weekend with family and loved ones, sharing the events of the day, after Sunday worship, in a place with a cozy ambiance, complete with a selection of local and international cuisine at a reasonable buffet price, with fast and friendly service of the receptionist and wait staff, and the availability of a free parking area, 9 SPOONS is highly commendable.
9 SPOONS fine dining restaurant is located at the PENTHOUSE of THE BAYLEAF. We enjoyed its unique place that captures the calmness and beauty of the stunning cityscape of the New City of Manila, with the surrounding greenery we rarely see. From this vantage point, we saw clearly the famous and the largest clock tower in the Philippines, located atop the City Hall of Manila. The iconic Manila Clock Tower was newly renovated into an art and culture museum.
The Bayleaf is also a convenient place for local and foreign tourist to rest, relax, refresh, and refuels after a half-day solo or group tour at the many tourist spots in the nearby area.
The hotel is easily accessible by a short taxi ride, a Calesa ride, a pedicab ride, an electric tricycle ride, or in some cases by foot with a walking guide tour.
The BAYLEAF also has an elevated area called the SKY DECK, a favorite spot for lovers and admirers of the magnificent sunset on sunny days.
