Konark Sun Temple is a 13th-century Hindu temple located in Konark, Odisha, India. Dedicated to Surya, the Hindu Sun God, this magnificent monument is an elaborate chariot full of intricate carvings and hidden meanings.

The name “Konark” is a combination of “Kona” (corner) and “Arka” (sun), meaning “Sun of the Corner”. The temple is one of the few in India dedicated to Surya, the sun god. The temple’s carvings and sculptures depict various mythological scenes and stories from Hindu scriptures.

Konark Sun Temple built during the reign of Eastern Ganga King Narasingha Deva I (c. 1250 CE), the temple showcases the Kalinga architectural style, characteristic of Odisha’s medieval temples. Konark Sun Temple originally situated on the shores of the Bay of Bengal, at the mouth of the Chandrabhaga River, the temple’s location was once a prominent landmark for sailors. Today, it stands about 35 kilometers northeast of Puri and 65 kilometers southeast of Bhubaneswar.
