The answer to the question ‘what is women’s health?’ keeps expanding beyond just reproductive health, and one of the most passionate advocate-entrepreneurs in this space is the CEO of Midi Health, Joanna Strober. As Joanna explains it, Midi offers niche care to women who are 40+, focusing specifically on better management of the symptoms and co-morbid health issues that women face during perimenopause, menopause, and beyond.
“What we've realized,” explains Joanna, “is there is this opportunity to go to the experts in women's health – and women’s health as a BIG offering. So, what does that mean? It means bone health. It means brain health. It means hot flashes. It means things like anxiety, depression, definitely painful periods and painful sex. There's a lot that goes into women's health and the different things that are happening to our bodies when we are in our 40s and 50s. And none of that requires in-person care.”
Nor does it require a single type of sub-sub-specialized provider base, or any additional add-a-network spend on the part of employers or patients as Midi Health’s care is covered by insurance companies. On that later point, Joanna says Midi won’t go into a market unless they have 40% of the PPO plans in that market contracted to cover their services; they’ve currently entered 12 States with this approach and anticipate being available in 30 States by the end of the year. As for that specialized care, it’s made scalable in the way the care protocols have been developed -- using the best-of-the-best care protocols from researchers in women’s health across medical disciplines -- then, integrating them, continually updating them, and delivering them to Midi patients by nurse practitioners who have access to physician experts when needed for complex cases or questions.
Attention toward the menopause/peri-menopause care market seems to be increasing, and we get Joanna’s input on what macro-forces she thinks are increasing the intensity of that spotlight. We also talk about the ways Midi Health is integrating with other care providers, and how partnerships with health systems are factoring into their very rapid growth. At the end of the day, Joanna sees it as “a really big market of underserved people who deserve better care….We're talking to the women who are coming to us, we're looking at the list of symptoms, and then we're creating protocols for them based on what they're asking for and what issues they have and what they're not getting taken care of elsewhere.” Find out more about how fast this business is growing and how the stigma and rhetoric around is changing as this menopause support market begins to boom - watch now!
