DAVID HAMILTON: Mountain Music

David Hamilton’s ‘Mountain Music’ brings the Taranaki Youth Orchestra together with eight different singing groups from local schools. The work, in nine sections, tells of the loss of habitat on and around the Taranaki maunga and efforts to take back the area for its plants and animals. The words were devised by David Hill, who based them on the writings of local students.

The Jocelyn Beath-directed Taranaki Youth Orchestra is conducted in this Resound film by David Hamilton. The recording was made under COVID-19 social distancing protocols at the TSB Theatre, New Plymouth, 18 September 2020 and SOUNZ thanks all participants and organisers for their tenacity in getting the work to production in very challenging pandemic conditions.

Mark Taranaki Anniversary Day with this celebration of youth and the natural environment.
