The MESA/Boogie Rectifier Badlander series was conceptualized as a modernization of the iconic Dual Rectifier amps that transformed the sound of heavy music after their public launch in 1992. The renovation bestowed Badlander amps with expanded tonal colors, adding a taste of straight-up rock to the Dual Rectifier’s ruder, more aggressive metal sounds. Badlanders come in 25-watt combos and heads, 50-watt combos and heads and 100-watt heads. In addition, rackmount heads are available in 50-watt and 100-watt models.

“When we developed the Badlander series, we gave it a different EQ character,” says MESA/Boogie Tone Lab honcho Doug West. “Compared to the Dual Rectifier, the Badlander produces tighter lows, a top end with more chime and some great clean sounds. It’s aimed a little bit more at classic rock, but it can also do the heavy sounds.”

Badlander amps are laid out similarly to MESA/Boogie’s Fillmore series, where both of the amp’s two channels are identical, and each channel offers three modes. For the Badlander, those modes are Clean, Crunch and Crush. Badlander amps are perfect for playing boldly but working quietly in home studios, as they come with MESA/Boogie’s CabClone speaker simulator that’s preloaded with eight MESA cabinet IRs. If you also go for low stage volumes without significant tonal compromises, all of the Badlander amps come with power attenuators—a 25w/10w switch for the 25-watt model, 50w/20w for the 50-watter and 100w/50w/20w for the big 100-watt head.
