Prathap Pothan Biography :
Indian actor, director, writer, and producer Pratap K. Pothan, well known by his stage name Prathap, has appeared in more than 100 films across five different languages. He has appeared in films in Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, Telugu, and Malayalam.
Childhood And Background
In 1952, he was born into a prosperous business family in Thiruvananthapuram. At the age of five, he enrolled in the renowned boarding school Lawrence School, Lovedale in Ooty, where he discovered his talent for painting.
He was the youngest of five children and was raised in a home where business, politics, entertainment, and the arts all coexisted, giving him the opportunity to explore a wide range of facets of life from his ancestral home in Trivandrum, Kerala.
Early Career in Film
With The Madras Players, Pratap performed. After seeing Pratap's performance in Shaw's play "Androcles and the Lion," the late director Bharathan invited Pratap to appear in his Malayalam film "Aaravam."
"I was undoubtedly fortunate. My debut film, in which I received a Filmfare Award, opened doors for me to further projects and opportunities."
He has appeared in many films alongside well-known leading ladies. His family is well-known and owns a sizable land in Kerala. He has produced shows there and is a member of the prestigious Madras Players.
Later Career in Film
Three additional movies by Pratap were Thakara, Chaamaram, and Lorry. The turbulent relationship between a student and his college lecturer was the subject of Chaamaram. These events mark turning points in Malayalam cinema.
Pratap became well-known in Tamil thanks to movies like "Nenjathai Killathe," "Panneer Pushpangal," "Moodupani," and "Varumayin Niram Sivappu." In Tamil, he really had more opportunities. His most enduring performance was undoubtedly in K Balachandar's "Varumayin Niram Sivappu."
Movie Director
Pratap started directing movies. The national award went to his first movie, "Meendum Oru Kaathal Kathai," which told the tale of a mentally ill couple. He co-starred in this film with his ex-wife Radhika, who is now Raadhika Sarathkumar and married to Sharath Kumar.
His strong suit as a director and actor has been subtlety. In Vetri Vizha, Prathap collaborated with Kamalhassan during a time when outspoken acting and innovations were out of style. It was the first time a Tamil movie has employed steady cam.
Three Malayalam movies were directed by Pratap: Rithubetham, which depicts the suffering of a "bastard," Daisy, which spread love throughout Kerala, and Oru Yatra Mozhi, which featured a son looking for his father.
Individual Life
He has been battling personal difficulties for a few years. After the passing of his brother (producer Hari Pothen), he was involved in property issues, received death threats, and battled sickness.
He claims to have risen from the dead. He travelled all around the world. He resided in Europe with a nephew and had claimed that the Internet had given him access to new opportunities.
He is an extremely articulate individual who is fluent in both English and other languages. He is an aristocrat and a member of high society. He no longer frequently shows up on the scene, possibly waiting for the right opportunity to launch a comeback.
But he eventually came to the conclusion that the film industry was changing far too quickly. After some time, things simply became too hectic for him, and he eventually realised that he was no longer having fun while shooting movies.
Then he stopped. Prathap Pothan is currently enjoying music, books, movies, fine food, and conversation with friends in between working on his current projects now that his youthful and chaotic days are behind him.
Everyone seems to be given a title by society at all times. When extraordinary people display a wide range of abilities, characteristics, layers of substance, and flaws, the average person is overwhelmed and uses adjectives like "eccentric" to describe them. If Prathap Pothan is an eccentric, then I want to grow up to be just like him, claimed several of his youthful fans and followers.
The news about his death is being discussed in many media. Especially Tamil news, Malayalam news, Telugu news, Kannada news, Hindi news and English news are being broadcasted.
