Thomas Nashe was one of the University Wits who created the literary ground for Shakespeare to harvest the fine literary crop. He was one of the most successful playwrights, pamphleteer, poet and satirist of the Elizabethan Era of English Literature.
He collaborated with Christopher Marlowe and wrote Dido, the Queen of Carthage. He also co-wrote another play with Ben Jonson titled The Isle of Dogs which was a satirical play that caused huge controversy as Queen Elizabeth herself was satirized in this play. This play was later banned and all its copies were destroyed.
Other major works of Nashe include Summer’s Last Will and Testament, Pierce Penniless, The Unfortunate Traveler, The Anatomy of Absurdity, and Terrors of the Night.
Summer's Last Will and Testament have a strong pastoral feeling. It is considered as a bridge in between the interludes of the 16th century and the Masques and dramas of Jacobean and Caroline era.
The play also includes two very famous poems 'Adieu Summer, Earth's Bliss' and 'Spring Sweet Spring.'
The Unfortunate Traveler Or Life of Jack Wilton is another of his famous work which is a picaresque novel. It described the development of the protagonist as the life goes on and he meets the famous figures of his era including Thomas Moore, Erasmus, Henry Howard and others.
