The Pope in Malta and the "dream" of hospitality

"Welcoming" is the word that resonates from Malta, the destination of Pope Francis' 36th international trip, this past April 2 and 3. A word of particular significance for an island that lies in the heart of the Mediterranean, but is also a natural bridge to the Land of Jesus.

"I always say that Malta could be considered as part of the Holy Land, because the presence of the Apostle Paul here made Malta become a foothold for the spread of the word as well."

It is precisely to St. Paul that the motto of the voyage refers: "They treated us with rare humanity," a phrase from the Acts of the Apostles that recounts the hospitality received by Paul, who was shipwrecked on this island.
