STORYLINE
Activists staged a protest in front of the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin on Monday, aimed at encouraging world leaders to act on climate change.
Members of the protest group Avaaz, which aims to highlight humanitarian and ecological issues around the world, called the event a 'wake-up call' for the leaders.
Protesters wearing masks of German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier were shown sleeping in a mock bed, placed in front of one of the city's most famous landmarks.
Another activist dressed as an alarm clock jumped above them to simulate a wake-up call.
Avaaz says similar protests have taken place in over 1,000 cities worldwide.
One representative of the organisation, Nicolas Kuhlendahl, said world leaders have one last chance to tackle climate change at a summit expected in Copenhagen later this year.
The protest comes as United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon invited leaders to attend a climate change summit in New York, one day ahead of the UN General Assembly meeting.
