Vinyl shutter installation in brick wall. We have new vinyl shutters so the old ones gotta go! We custom ordered the new shutters online and got them about 3 months later.

First me prep the new shutters by putting the pilot holes for the anchor bolts with a 1/4 inch standard drill bit. Making 2 inches from the top and 2 inches from the side.

Next we remove the old shutters carefully.

After cleaning the wall behind the old shutters, we level and try to place the new shutter in the same spot as the old. It helps if there is discoloration from the weather. Use something tough to mark the new drill holes. Use a 1/4 inch masonry bit long enough to get the ribbed plastic anchors all the way in.

After making the new hold, we put the anchors in the top holes to mount on the brick wall. Only insert the anchors 3/4 of the way in. Then we carefully line up the anchors with the hold and tap them in a little at a time, checking the level to be sure they are straight. Only tap in until it touches the face of the shutter! If you tap in too far, it will bow in and look crazy! So be careful and go slowly.

Once the top anchors are in then move to the bottom two and repeat the process. Use the holes in the shutters to mark you holes. Check the level. Then pull the shutter back enough to work your drill. Not too far back! Don’t want to damage the top anchors. After the holes are done, you add the ribbed anchors the same way as the first two. Tap in slowly!

You’re all done! Just gotta do the rest of the shutters now.

*Remember to make the shutters the same measurements as the other side! So it looks even when you stand back and admire your work.
