గంగోత్రి ఉత్తరాఖండ్‌ రాష్ట్రం, ఉత్తర కాశీ జిల్లాలోని ఒకనగర పంచాయితీ. ఇది భాగీరథీ నదీతీరంలో ఉన్న హిందువుల పుణ్యక్షేత్రం. ఇది హిమాలయాల పర్వత శ్రేణులలో 3145 మీటర్ల ఎత్తులో ఉంది. గంగోత్రి గంగా నది పుట్టిన ప్రదేశం. హిమాలయాలలోని చార్‌ధామ్‌లలో ఒకటి. ఇక్కడ గంగానది భాగీరథీ పేరుతో పిలవబడుతుంది. గంగా నదిని భూమికి తీసుకు రావడానికి భాగీరథుడు కారణం కనుక ఆ పేరు వచ్చింది. దేవ ప్రయాగ నుండి గంగానదిలో అలకనంద నది ప్రవేశించే ప్రదేశం నుండి గంగా నదిగా పిలవబడుతుంది. గంగానది పుట్టిన ప్రదేశం గౌముఖ్. ఇది గంగోత్రి నుండి 19 కిమీటర్ల ఎగువ పర్వతాలలో ఉంది.
హరిద్వార్, రిషికేశ్, డెహరాడూన్ నుండి ఒక రోజు ప్రయాణంచేసి గంగోత్రిని చేరవచ్చు. యమునోత్రి నుండి రెండురోజుల ప్రయాణం చేసి చేరుకోవచ్చు. యమునోత్రి కంటే గంగోత్రికి వచ్చే సందర్శకుల సంఖ్య అధికం. గంగోత్రిని బస్సు లేక కారులో ప్రయాణించి చేరుకోవచ్చు. 18వ శతాబ్దపు ఆఖరి భాగం లేక 19వ శతాబ్దపు ఆరంభంలో గంగాదేవి ఆలయం గుర్కా జనరల్ అమర్‌సింఘ్ థాపాచే నిర్మించబడి నట్లు అంచనా. ఇక్కడి సంప్రదాయక పూజలు సెమ్వాల్ కుటుంబానికి చెందిన పూజారులు నిర్వహిస్తారు. గంగానది ఉదృతంగా ప్రవహించే ప్రదేశంలో ఉన్న గంగాదేవికి ఆరతి ఇచ్చే దృశ్యం భక్తులకు మనోహర దృశ్యం. పర్వతారోహకులకు గంగోత్రి ముఖ్య కేంద్రం. ఇక్కడి నుండి కొందరు సాహసయాత్రికులు గౌముఖ్ పర్వతాన్ని అధిరోహిస్తుంటారు.
హిందూ పురాణలలో గంగాదేవి స్వర్గ నివాసితురాలని రాజకుమారుడు భాగీరధుడు కపిలమునిచే శపించబడిన తన పూర్వీకులను ఉద్దరించడానికి గంగానదిని స్వర్గంనుండి తీసుకు వచ్చాడని వర్ణించబడింది. గంగా ఉధృతిని భూదేవి భరించలేదని అందువలన శివుడు తన జఠాఝూటాలలో బంధించి భూమికి మెల్లగా పంపాడని పురాణాలు చెప్తున్నాయి.

Gangotri Dham is a sacred Hindu pilgrimage town located in the Uttarkashi district in the state of Uttarakhand, India. It is situated at an elevation of about 3,145 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas. Gangotri is the source of the holy River Ganges, which is highly revered in Hinduism.
The original source of River Ganga is at Gaumukh, located 19 km away. It is accessible through trekking from Gangotri. River Ganga is known as Bhagirathi as it originates from Gaumukh. It acquired the name Ganga from Devprayag, where it meets the Alaknanda River.

Gangotri is the easiest to reach (by direct bus or taxi) out of the Chardham. It is located 300 km from Rishikesh and 100 km from Uttarkashi. The main attraction of Gangotri is the Gangotri Temple, dedicated to Ma Ganga. The temple remains open from 4 AM -9 PM. Aarti Timing is 6 AM and 7:45 PM.
The main attraction in Gangotri is the Gangotri Temple dedicated to the Goddess Ganga. The temple is believed to have been constructed by the Gorkha General Amar Singh Thapa in the 18th century. Pilgrims visit this temple to offer prayers and seek blessings. The serene surroundings of Gangotri with snow-capped peaks, lush greenery, and the gushing Bhagirathi River add to the spiritual ambiance of the place. Best time to visit -
The best time to visit Gangotri Dham is during the summer months, from May to June, and from September to October. During these times, the weather is pleasant, and the trekking routes are more accessible for pilgrims and tourists. Travelling in monsoons is not recommended due to the risk of landslides, floods and other rain-related issues. Very low temperature and heavy snow makes winter an inappropriate season for pilgrimage in Chota Char Dham.
Gangotri is visited by millions of devotees each year due to its religious significance. It is believed to be the place where Goddess Ganga descended on earth after Lord Shiva released her from the locks of his hair.

Road Conditions:
Single lane roads from Uttarkashi to Gangotri or Uttarkashi to Janki Chatti.
Heavy traffic congestion, leading to 5 to 8-hour traffic jams.
Delays may worsen in extreme conditions.

Accommodation is available in Gangotri at various guest houses, lodges and dharamshalas. Prices for these vary according to seasons
