The increasing strain on our world’s natural resources has pushed our fragile ecosystems to their limit. The impacts of habitat loss and climate change torment all parts of the globe and increasingly threaten our day to day lives. In an effort to abate these threats, governments and organizations have called for increased conservation standards and goals. By protecting larger pieces of land and water, we give our natural systems a chance to heal and return to their balanced state. Applying a geodesign framework to conservation planning, we will look at how GIS can be used to prioritize and direct efforts to meet these new conservation goals. While GIS gives us the opportunity to make better informed decisions, geodesign guides us to approach planning iteratively and holistically.
