Agnipath Faces an Agni Pariksha, Protests Break Out Against New Military Program

The Centre finds itself under more fire after the Nupur Sharma controversy, this time from young Army aspirants after the Modi-government had announced the "Agnipath" program. The scheme which looks to enlist volunteers on short and long term has drawn heavy criticism. Massive protests in Rajasthan, Bihar, and Uttar Pradesh broke out with many Army aspirants saying they waited several years for the Army to begin admission. Regular recruitment had been halted for two years due to Covid outbreak. The new scheme also does not have any pension plans.
