Opening Red Custard Apple

Also known as Annona reticulata, red custard apple grows really well in South Florida and their season is around early-mid spring time.

Red custard apple is ripe when soft all over and will easily peel open with your hands. The skin is edible although it doesn’t have much flavor but the seeds are not edible at all. The flavor and texture remind me of a creamy strawberry/raspberry yogurt cheesecake 🍓 Towards the skin, the texture gets slightly grainy kind of like a pear.
