After opening in 1922 as St George’s RC High School with a capacity of providing residential accommodation for upto 150 boys the school later became a community home for education in 1973 before its last use as Clarence High School, which supported young people with emotional and behavioural needs up until its closure in 2018 when dwindling numbers and financial pressures forced the closure of the ageing school.
There have been allegations and investigations into claims of abuse in the school dating back some time.
